Why you’ll love it

A city that loves a wanderer. Tiled hills, tram 28, and pastéis at every turn. A GoSmart specialist tailors the route, the stays, and the pace to you.

Why it works

A yellow tram rattles up a hill too steep to believe, fado drifting from an open door, the smell of grilling sardines and a pastel de nata still warm in your hand. Lisbon is made for wandering alone, cheap, friendly, and highly walkable if your legs are up for the climbs.

Worth knowing

It is one of the easier European capitals to do solo: safe, affordable, English widely spoken, and full of little restaurants where eating alone is normal. The hills are no joke, so pack real shoes and use the trams and funiculars.
Ride tram 28 early or late to skip the crush, and go to a proper fado house for the music, ideally one where dinner comes with it. Day-trip to Sintra, but leave first thing to beat the crowds to the palaces.
Spring and fall are the sweet spots, warm and lively without the August heat and crush. Nights start late here, so a solo traveler can ease into the bars of Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodre at the same hour as everyone else.
