Why you’ll love it

Three generations, one dock, s'mores as the closing ceremony. A GoSmart specialist handles the group logistics so nobody has to be the planner.

Why it works

The boat idles into a cove, someone finally gets the playlist going, and by afternoon three generations are floating on tubes arguing about where to eat. That is the Lake of the Ozarks, where a rented lakehouse quietly turns a family back into a crew.

Worth knowing

Rent a house with a dock and a boat, or arrange a boat rental early. The lake is enormous and spread out, and the whole rhythm of the trip runs on the water, so a place you have to drive to the lake from misses the point.
Stop at a grocery store before heading to the lake. Once everyone is settled in, nobody wants to spend an hour making a grocery run.
Summer weekends are peak, loud, and busy, especially around Party Cove. Come midweek or in the shoulder season if you want the lake calmer and the rentals cheaper.

About the place

The Lake of the Ozarks sits in central Missouri, a few hours from Kansas City or St. Louis, so most families drive in and load up. It is a boating and lake-house destination first, not a town trip.
