Why you’ll love it

Lemon groves, cliff roads, and long lunches above the sea. A GoSmart specialist tailors the route, the stays, and the pace to you.

Why it works

The road clings to the cliff and every bend opens onto another drop of blue, lemon groves terraced above and pastel villages spilling toward the water below. You pull into a shaded terrace, order an icy limoncello you will remember, and just watch the boats stitch white lines across the bay.

Worth knowing

The coast road is gorgeous and genuinely nerve-wracking, narrow with blind bends and heavy summer traffic. Many couples skip the rental and use the SITA buses or the seasonal ferries, which are often faster and far less stressful.
Come in May or September rather than mid-summer. You get the warm sea and the bougainvillea without the peak crush, and tables at the good restaurants are actually gettable.
Positano is essentially built on stairs, so pack shoes you can climb in and a light layer for boat rides. The views cost you in calf muscles.

About the place

The Amalfi Coast unspools along southern Italy's Sorrentine peninsula, a string of cliffside towns like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello linked by one famously dramatic coastal road. Lemons, ceramics, and long lunches are the local religion.
