Why it works
The bass rolls across the terrace as the sun finally drops into the sea, thousands of hands go up at once, and you realize the night is only just starting. Ibiza runs on a schedule all its own, where dinner starts around midnight and the club doesn't really get going until well after that.
Worth knowing
The club season runs roughly late May to early October, bookended by the famous opening and closing parties, so outside those months the superclubs are shut. Come in summer if the clubbing is the point.
Tickets and tables are far cheaper bought ahead online than at the door, and the big nights sell out. Pace yourself, since a proper Ibiza night ends after sunrise and the next day is for the beach or the pool, not sightseeing.
It is expensive once you are out, with steep entry and pricey drinks, so budget for the night itself. The clubs cluster around Playa d'en Bossa, San Antonio, and Ibiza Town, and a taxi or the club bus beats driving.
About the place
There is a whole other Ibiza by day, quiet coves, a UNESCO old town, and the hippie markets, and the smaller island of Formentera is a short ferry for the clearest water. Balance the nights with those and the trip lands better.
