Getting there is a journey. You fly into Tahiti at Papeete, then take a short domestic flight to Bora Bora and a boat to your resort, so budget a travel day on each end rather than expecting to arrive fresh.
Ask for an overwater bungalow set away from the resort's main dock and dining for privacy, and check whether yours has direct lagoon access and good snorkeling right off the deck.
The dry season, roughly May to October, brings the clearest water and least rain, and it is also peak and priciest. Bora Bora is expensive year-round, so decide where to splurge, the villa, the meals, or a lagoon tour, before you go.
