From any angle, the Grand Canyon isn't just a view, it's an entire landscape!
Did you know your experience can be completely different depending on which rim you choose?
South Rim: The classic Grand Canyon experience! Incredible viewpoints, scenic drives, and hiking opportunities, like the Bright Angel Trail, for those who want to experience the canyon from below. The El Tovar Hotel sits just steps from the Canyon's edge at the South Rim and is 121 years old. Talk about a room with a view! The sunset going below the canyon is breathtaking!
West Rim: Want a little more adventure? The West Rim is home to the famous Skywalk, where you can step out over the canyon and look straight down. The entrances and facilities are operated by the Hualapai Tribe on their reservation. You park at the Grand Canyon West Terminal and visitor center.
I've been to both, and while each offers something special, I personally prefer the South Rim. I love having the freedom to park, explore, and hike on my own rather than being dependent on a shuttle, because you are unable to drive your personal vehicle to the individual viewpoints or the Skywalk at the West Rim.
Same magnificent canyon...but two very different ways to experience it!
One of the things that took my breath away was how much the canyon changes with the light. In the bright Arizona sunshine, the layers of red, orange, gold, and pink seem almost painted into the landscape. As the sun sets, those same cliffs and shadows transform again-deeper, richer, and somehow even more breathtaking. Photos simply can't capture the transformation you see right before your eyes.
