Can the pilots see you as they approach? You bet they can!
Saw videos of this but nothing beats experiencing this live and in person!
My 7 night Caribbean cruise on Celebrity Cruises stopped in St. Maarten and since this was my first time going plane spotting, I booked a guided tour with the ship. Thank goodness for the air conditioned bus (it was hot!) and our friendly and funny tour guide Carline who shared the history of how two separate nations - French and Dutch - live peacefully on one island. Two of everything - 2 hospitals, 2 schools, 2 police and 2 fire departments.
PRO TIPS:
1. Skip the guided tour and take a taxi from the cruise port to Maho Beach. Costs approx $25 one way. Grab a drink or lunch at Sunset Beach Restaurant and watch the planes come in. FREE WIFI FOR 2 HOURS! 👍
And yes, there are taxis across from the restaurant to take you back to the cruise port.
2. Check online for the flight schedule to see arrival and departure times so you can plan ahead the best time to get there. It’s a small island so don’t expect it to be busy.
3. And for those extreme adventure seekers, no fence surfing allowed. Sorry folks yes I know it’s a blast (literally) standing in the jet’s blast, but it’s dangerous.
Felt like I could reach up and touch the planes!
