Towering blue glaciers drift past in silence broken only by calving ice
Can you really see glaciers from your cruise ship in Antarctica?
Absolutely! It's one of those moments that no photo can fully capture. On our Seabourn expedition, we spent hours on deck as towering blue glaciers drifted past under bright sunshine. The silence was incredible, broken only by the crack of ice calving into the sea and the occasional call of a seabird overhead.
GoSmart Tip: Dress in layers and don't rush back inside. Some of the most unforgettable wildlife sightings and glacier views happen when you simply stay on deck and take it all in.
The Drake Passage is famous for some of the roughest seas on Earth, but we were lucky enough to experience the legendary "Drake Lake." Instead of towering waves, we crossed on gentle swells, making the journey surprisingly smooth. It was a reminder that in Antarctica, nature is always in charge, and sometimes she gives you the perfect welcome.
