Normandy: where history is truly felt, not just something you've learned.
We visited the five D-Day beaches—Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword—and spent time at the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach.
Standing there, surrounded by row after row of perfectly aligned crosses, was something I’ll never forget. You can read about D-Day, see the pictures, and learn the history, but standing there makes it feel very different.
I tried to imagine what our soldiers faced on those beaches that morning, and honestly, I can’t even begin to comprehend it.
It was more than a stop on our travels. It was a moment to pause, remember, and be grateful.
There sheer number of crosses was almost overwhelming. No photograph can ever prepare you for what it feels like to stand among them. It's something I'll truly never forget. I feel a little more grateful, even today, for having visited Normandy.
